On Tuesday, Uncle Shea decided to visit our apartment. Mom and Dad decided to let the boys go pick him up from the train station, all by themselves. Mom took a picture of what could have been their final moments with us.
Shea and the boys did make it back on their own without getting lost, and we had a great evening catching up on Shea’s adventures.
On Wednesday we walked to Uncle Yoshio and Aunt Tamiko’s house for a “tea meeting”, so Shea could tell Yoshio and Tamiko about his travels through Japan. Along the way, we saw this garden, with these adorable topiary bushes. Yard space is limited in Japan, so almost every inch of private ground, is a garden. (This yard actually has the most grass that I have seen so far)
We also saw this ginormous (not a real word) bike parking lot. Many, if not most, people do not own cars in Japan (or at least where we have traveled). I would say there are probably three bikes for every motorized vehicle, and I see more mopeds than full cars. Their cars are also smaller than the cars in the U.S. At first, I thought the cars looked squished 😛
When we got to their house, we enjoyed some light snacks while catching up on our recent activities. Apparently us kids looked bored, so Yoshio brought out some REALLY old manga, and a deck of cards 🙂
When Shea was done sharing his adventures, Yoshio gave another Go lesson.
The third week is quickly coming to a close. We have enjoyed our time so much, and have learned a lot about Japanese home culture. Japan is growing closer and closer to my heart 🙂

Oh my, that GO looks like a hard game. I have Penta: which I love; and had read that it was similar. I don’t think so! And what is Manga?
Manga is the Japanese comic strip art. It is the same style as anime, except that anime is animated (such as on television and movies), and manga is in books.
“Took a picture…final moments…”. Lol. At least they would have been memorialized! I think Elias should decide which real birds the topiary birds most resemble… Or create original scientific names for them 🙂
Ha, ha! That would be funny! Elias said that they are ducks, and he is giving them the name,
Genericus platyrhynchos (the second part is the species name for the mallard duck)!
