Friday was a rainy day… well, it was supposed to be. Uncle Shea found a cool park, earlier in his adventures, and he had hoped to show us the park today. We had to cancel, because the weather forecast showed rain for the entire day. We waited and waited for the rain, but were only greeted by a small sprinkling, just as Dad and I headed to the grocery store to pick up ingredients for my birthday. Our usual ‘birthday breakfast’ would be homemade, from scratch, eggs benedict (but with a fried egg, not a poached). Unfortunately, we did not have all of the materials we needed to be able to make the hollandaise sauce. As a substitute, Dad and I went to the store to try and put together the ingredients for gourmet pancakes. With our Google translator, I have become quite confident in asking an employee where a certain item is, if we are having trouble locating it. Trying to find the classic, sugary toppings that one would usually see on gourmet pancakes, proved to be difficult, so I got a lot of practice talking to employees (to clarify, at this point my way of “asking” is to pull up the Japanese word on Google translator, say ‘sumimasen’ to the first employee I see, show it to the employee, maybe even saying the word if I feel confident, and then thanking them when they show the lost American where the item has been the entire time that they watched me stare at the wall).
The rest of the day was quiet. School has been going well. Most of the day, on my part, was spent anticipating tomorrow.
